I realized recently that the "high" I get when I save money is nearly identical to the high I get when I shop (though I wouldn't say I love shopping, I can't deny it provides a bit of a thrill--placing an order online, waiting for the package to arrive, etc.). Similarly, the feeling of getting rid of stuff mirrors the thrill of bringing more home. I like nothing more than clearing out a cabinet, sending the unwanted items off to charity, and knowing that the remaining contents are only those I want and need. But then I find a bargain on shaving gel and buy six cans, and that's pretty darned exciting too.
Saving high vs. shopping high
